The alsd seems to work better than most other mfg's that try to use the brakes as a traction/locker device. I have considered going with a locker, but I don't offroad.

The main reason is that the front tires on a 2wd act like boat anchors, especially on diesel trucks that are very heavy on the front.

A good mud tire will probably offer additional traction on that loose gravel and those muddy fields, but they will also suck on ice. An all terrain would be a compromise. I would carry some chains, just in case. One other old school trick. Put some weight in the bed.

Didn't need 4wd, but needed the E-lock. We have a car with the "electronic limited slip" which is really just the spin control that engages the caliper to control wheel speed. It also does not work.
