It's a 5 speed, and I'm assuming it's a T5 but I'm not sure because he said the bellhousing was one piece with the transmission casing, and I thought T5's all had bellhousing that would unbolt from the tranny.

If your case is around 1/2" longer and looks like a Saginaw, then you have an SM330, which is darn near bullet proof and quite rare.

I installed a saginaw 4 speed out of a pontiac astre (vega) in my 69 chevy shortbed.I used the factory pontiac shifter,which did not bolt to the trans,but it bolted to the floor of the vehicle.I did a little modifying on the shifter rods and bolted the shifter to the truck floor.

WebMar 7, 2009 · The biggest problem as I recall it (takes me back to high school) is that it is extremely difficult to make a good shift with a 3 speed. I remember I had a friend that had a built 327 in a 55 chevy and he was running a Saginaw 3 speed. He went through 3 or 4 3 speeds b/4 finally upgrading to a Muncie. It was cheaper in the long run.
